Having won the Azam Uganda Premier League (AUPL) last season, Vipers Sports Club earned a slot in the 2016 CAF Champions League.

According to reports from the Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA), Vipers have met the necessary requirements for the competition and completed registration hence wait inspection from CAF before being given a go ahead to make their debut at the continental competition.

“Vipers Sports Club paid the security fee of USD 10,000 to the FUFA accounts plus the USD 500 as registration fees,” FUFA Licensing Committee Chairman Dr. Patrick Bernard Ogwel revealed during yesterday’s press conference.

Vipers missed the chance to make their debut back in 2011 when they failed to register despite having won the league in 2010.

In related news, the local football governing body also revealed that they have approached KCCA FC to step in and take the slot in case SC Villa fail to register for the continental tournament on time since they were the losing finalists.

The Jogoos won the 2015 Uganda Cup which earned them a slot at the 2016 CAF Confederation Cup but are yet to register for the competition.

Villa has, however, asked for more time to fulfill all the necessary requirements and register before the deadline that is set for 30th November 2015.
