Vinka

By Our Reporter

When singer Vinka announced she would release a new video every month for a whole year, many thought she had setup herself for failure. For to release a new video every month was indeed a herculean job, requiring lots of resources to accomplish. But month after month she has continued to prove her doubters wrong as she has remained true to her word.

“At the beginning of the year, Vinka promised to release a song every first day of the month for the rest of the year. It is easy to say, but hard to achieve.” Swangz Avenue’s Julius Kyazze told media.
“It has taken alot of commitment but finally Vinka and the team have managed to deliver on the promise.”

Kyazze was speaking at Vinka’s new video premiere for November, her 11th this year, which was held at Swangz Avenue offices at The Square on Monday evening.

Titled “Bebe”, Vinka collaborated with Elena Alexandra Apostoleanu a.k.a INNA, a multi-award winning Romanian artiste.

The video premiered globally via a YouTube Livestream and had already garnered over 100K views with in just hours of it’s release.

“I was made to redo my part over 10 times,” Vinka revealed.

The video was shot in Romania and directed by Bogdan Paun and Alexandru Muresan.

By Our Reporter

Prince Omar and Skales are no strangers to your eyes, and their music is no stranger to your ears too. The two budding artistes linked up for a new beach-inspired song called Bikini. The song, co-written by Skales and Daddy Andre, was produced by the very talented Daddy Andre himself who gave it a dancehall beat.

Bikini is a ‘feel good’ song that talks about a lady moving her body in the bikini. Prince Omar’s voice blends well with Skales’ in this mid-tempo track, everyone complementing the other almost flawlessly making the song pleasing to listen to.

Bikini is not only pleasing to the ears, but pleasing to the eyes as well. Videography maestro Sasha Vybz was behind the lens and his delivery is one we would so much expect from a man of his expertise and experience in the videography arena.

Going by the song’s title, the video was shot at a beach in Kenya, with gorgeous women in bikinis revealing their curves that make you think they were drawn by a compass.

The idea of having the vixens carry weights and work out in the night scenes in the video fits into the narrative of having to workout in order to achieve a perfect bikini body, relating directly to the title of the song.

Prince Omar is a fast-rising star and this collabo with Skales will give him entry into an international audience.

Maurice Kirya

By Bash Mutumba

Maurice Kirya is one of Uganda’s music legends, arguably, and has been plucking strings on his guitar since the late 90’s. Many of the artistes that were hitting during the times of his songs like “Boda Boda” and “Binadamu” featuring Tanzania’s A.Y, have either quit music, been forced out by competition, or totally changed style, but the King of Mwoyo has remained true to his craft of Soul Music, staying relevant till today.

“Headmaster”, just like other songs on his albums like Misubbaawa, Mwoyo and The Book Of Kirya, is an acoustic driven piece, rotating on just three chord arpeggios, but with a very catchy vibe; and news of its video getting released brought many huge smiles on many a music lover’s faces. A song that talks about the need for safety by condom use, when indulging in sexual activity, Headmaster has rather deep lyrics; and can only be deciphered by either a geezer who watched “Ndiwulira”, a late 90’s play by Bakayimbira Dramactors, or a keen listener.

The video, shot in a school setting after the song’s title, shows creative dancers doing their thing outside, a teacher giving Sex Education classes to students and Kirya channelling his inner Guitar Hero inside a classroom; urging the ‘Headmaster’ not to forget his ‘coat’ while going about his business. It is actually my personal favorite off the “Free Dreams” album, but I hope he releases videos to the songs on the new album “Beyond Myself” a little quicker.
