Let’s get ready to rumble! Today’s battle is between Ugandan artists Pallaso and Sheebah; the East African collabo of Victoria Kimani, Ommy Dimpoz and Diamond Platnumz; as well as Nameless from Kenya.
The exponential growth of East African music industry cannot be ignored. Although our musical styles are different we can agree that the quality of music and videos is definitely improving.
Let’s see what these three videos have to give us!
Pallaso and Sheebah – Go Down Low
The Number 3 video in the Uganda charts has us dancing on our seats. We love the festival-esque setting in this video. The concept: a party breaks out when a bunch of guys are caught up in really nasty traffic. A dance battle ensues between the guys and the gals where we see Sheebah showing off her sultry voice and her dancing prowess with a bunch of lovely ladies that we just can’t keep our eyes off. Pallaso never disappoints with his high-energy performances but sadly his team looks like amateur dancers compared to his leading lady. Anyway next time you are caught in traffic, get out and go down low! #TeamNoSleep
Victoria Kimani – Prokoto ft. Ommy Dimpoz, Diamond Platnumz
Victoria Kimani recently launched her long-awaited video Protoko that features Tanzanian superstars Diamond and Ommy Dimpoz and is directed by Kevin Bosco Jnr. The song is definitely one that’ll stay on your mind for days and the hook is definitely addictive. The traditional East Africa sound just makes you want to dance Chakacha (East Africa dance where one whines their waist in slow motion). The video though, apart from VK looking super hot in all the scenes, doesn’t really have a running theme. I expected a lot more dancing, seeing as the Protoko dance has taken over East Africa, didn’t you? And can we talk about that swimsuit and that blue hair?
Nameless – Butterfly
We are definitely suckers for a love song, especially one that mixes both traditional and a contemporary feel. Nameless falls in love with a lady from a different background, a lady who only speaks the local language Luganda. He doesn’t give up his chase although he knows they are worlds apart, he teaches her his language and they live happily ever after! This beautiful sing-along is definitely a banger! We must also hand it to Nameless, his Luganda is really good and the Kiwojolo dance might just catch on!
