Veteran radio presenter Kakyebezi Robert triumphed in a hotly contested NRM mayoral race in party primaries that were concluded on Thursday in Mbarara municipality.
Kakyebezi Robert garnered 11,191 votes to trounce the incumbent, Wilson Tumwine who got 7,133 votes to come second. The other contestants in the race were Rashid Mukasa (5,591 votes), Katushabe Mary (2,712 votes), Apollo Kibira (346 votes), and Mugisha (132 votes).
Kakyebezi rose to fame in the early 2000’s when he joined the now Vision Group owned radio station, Radio West. He has since amassed a legion of loyal fans as evidenced in the just concluded elections.
