News coming through is that the initiator and host of the Twenty20 countdown on the UBC affiliated Magic100 FM D’zyre Derekford has left the station.
Upon receiving this piece of news we were quick to contact him and in an exclusive interview this is what he had to say in regard to the above.
D’zyre, is it true that you have left Magic100 FM?
Unbelievable to those I have told so far, but actually I was volunteering at the station, not being paid a single coin. So UBC decided to stop the volunteers, and I am technically one of those.
What happens to you program the twenty20 countdown that you have been hosting?
Station manager says he really still needs me but then his superiors have spoken.
“The #SamsungTwitterParty is back! Get ready to party the night away come 19th December at Zone 7 with fellow tweeps. Entrance is 15,000shs. Call 0775439894 for details. Great music and drinks.”
Working all this tine without pay is unbelievable, what drove you?
I did this because yes, I love media, but majorly because of my love for Ugandan music. So even when there was no pay, my contribution to the industry, and seeing to it that Ugandan music gets much more airplay kept me going.
Oh, no one should think I am getting broke now, my Production Co-ordinator job at One Mic Show NTV, Presenter job at The Ultimate B Ball Show, my media company, Dez Media Company and my private businesses will still pay my bills, as they always have been.
My only worry now is if Magic100FM will remain big and true to being “Your Ultimate Urban Ugandan Music Station” with this development because if it doesn’t turn out that way, it will be the urban Ugandan artiste that is the loser with the development and not me. Otherwise, I will try to get back on air, under better circumstances to try and keep my #TeamUGMusic movement going.
How long had you worked at UBC?
I joined in late 2006, was a paid employee till I quit the youth show, Prime Club in early 2011, joined Star TV where I first started with the #TeamUGMusic on Digida, a show I started to promote urban Ugandan videos, which is also under UBC, but didn’t wait to get on the pay roll as politics in the management made it uncomfortable for me to keep on. So I quit, to start my Dez Media Company… I got back to UBC last year in April, to join the late Susan Namasaba and Lucie on the breakfast show, Good Morning Uganda, through a hook-up by my boy, Calvin The Entertainer… worked on it till late November and chose to leave and join Magic100FM in December because of salary conflicts.
We are sure they will miss your services, you started and ran that program single handedly.
You will be shocked man,Ugandans forget you when you are nolonger a part of the station.
We wish you all the best in your other endevours, any last words for your fans?
It should be remembered that the Twenty20 countdown concept is my original concept and hope to re-brand it and bring it up again in the future, this will not be the end.
