SC Villa

By Robert Kayindi James

Uganda Revenue Authority FC dented SC Villa’s chance of closing the gap on league leaders KCCA FC as they held them to a two-all draw in a game played on Tuesday evening at the Mehta Stadium in Lugazi.

Jimmy Kulaba scored late in the second half to cancel out Martin Kizza’s goal that had put the Jogoos in the lead and were just minutes away from a victory.

Sam Sekitto gave the Kefa Kisala-coached side a lead after only 11 minutes into the game but Ambrose Kirya struck to level matters for the visitors, ending it 1-1 at half time.

Shafik Bisaso’s side remains second on the log with 28 points, three behind leaders KCCA who travel to Jinja today to take on Sadolin Paints FC. The Tax Collectors on the other hand remain 6th on the table with 19 points.

At the military stadium in Bombo, The Saints managed to frustrate Vipers Sports Club as they held them to a one-all draw.

The game was Richard Wasswa’s first fixture in charge as interim boss following the sacking of head coach Abdallah Mubiru and his counterparts.

Ezekiel Katende scored a 19th minute strike to give the hosts a lead while striker Tony Odur equalized from 12 yards for the Venoms, 10 minutes after the one hour mark.

Vipers remain 5th on the table with 21 points while The Saints are 11th 16 points.

Elsewhere, Express Football Club returned to winning ways after nearly two and half months without a league victory as they beat hosts Soana FC in a clash at Kavumba Recreational grounds in Wakiso.

Ibrahim Saddam Juma and Noah Ssemakula scored for the Red Eagles in the first and second half respectively as they won 2-1 against a Sam Ssimbwa-coached side.

Saddam Juma put Express into the lead after 32 minutes from the penalty spot while Farouk Osama equalized for the home side at the stroke of half time to make it 1-1. Three minutes into the second half, Ssemakula restored the lead for the visitors which eventually turned out to be the match winner.

The victory elevated Express FC to 7th place on the table with 19 points while Soana remained 3rd with 23 points.

The Entebbe Golf Club was draped in all white on Saturday night as the Singleton Match Play Challenge celebrated the opening round of their 2020
edition during an all-white 19th hole experience that took place at the picturesque course.

Undoubtedly one of the most sought after golfing tournaments in the country, the 2020 edition opened up with a bang as over 100 golfers tried their best to make the cut and be part of the 64 pairs that will in the course of the next seven months go head to head on the grueling course for a chance at the grand prize.

The night also saw the cream of Uganda’s golfing fraternity dine and make merry to the start of an action-packed season. Hosted by celebrated comedian Patrick Salvador Idringi, the night was filled with laughter and comedic wit as Salvador took guests and revelers on an emotional rollercoaster with jokes on end.

60 pairs joined the defending champions while the other three pairs (wild cards) were picked by the sponsor(s) to make the final 64 pairs. These will be playing starting on February 8, March 14, April 18, May 9, and June 20 all the way to the grand finale that is slated to take place on July 18.

Addressing guests at the event UBL’s head of Whisky Portfolio Annette Nakiyaga couldnot hide her excitement at how big a vision the Singleton Match Play Championship has become.

“I cannot tell you how excited I am that we are doing this once more, if the last three years have taught us anything is that with hard work, commitment and determination we can build something as big as this. I have a feeling that this is going to be yet another exciting year at the Singleton,” said Annette Nakiyaga, UBL’s Head of Luxury Portfolio.

The winning pair will get a fully-paid trip to watch the OMEGA Dubai Desert Classic, a series which has welcomed some of the best golfers including Tiger Woods and Henrik Stenson. There will also be business class return air tickets for the first and second runner-up pairs, as well as the winners of the subsidiary events in both the men’s and ladies’ categories. Other prizes include monthly subscription packages on DStv, golf accessories and HTC goodies.

Arsenal vs Man City

By Our Reporter

Can SBA’s Mr. Predictor get all five predictions right this week? Here is a review of this Weekend’s matches, including Arsenal v Man City, and a Liverpool home game against Watford. You can bet on these and more at www.sba.co.ug

Liverpool 2 v 0 Watford – Saturday 14 December – Premier League – Liverpool Win with 0:1 Handicap (1.50)

This will be Liverpool’s last Premier League game before they go to the Club World Cup, so they will want to leave with a win. They currently have an eight-point lead at the top of the Premier League and they can’t risk Leicester closing that gap. The Reds have won their last three games by at least two goals, though, while bottom side Watford have only scored once in their last four matches. They have lost 5-0 on their last two visits to Anfield and, although I don’t expect the same score this time, I can only see a straightforward Home Win.

Mainz 1 v 2 Borussia Dortmund – Saturday 14 December – Bundesliga – Over 2.5 Goals (1.45)

Dortmund can climb to within two points of top with victory here. They’re third in the Bundesliga right now and are on a run of three straight wins in all competitions. They have won 2-1 on each of their last two trips to Mainz, who have lost six of their last ten league games. I have to back another Dortmund Win here and I expect some goals. There have been Over 2.5 Goals in eight of Mainz’s last ten games, and in each of Dortmund’s last nine games overall.

Real Sociedad 0 v 2 Barcelona – Saturday 14 December – La Liga – Barcelona Win (1.65)

This season is going better than expected for Sociedad. They are now fourth in the standings, having only lost one of their last five games. This will be a true test, though. They used to have a very strong home record against Barcelona, but they have now lost seven times in a row to the reigning champions. Barcelona have won their last seven games in all competitions, including against Inter Milan in midweek. Several key players including Lionel Messi and Gerard Pique were rested for that game but they are expected to return here. I’m backing an Away Win.

Wolves 1 v 2 Tottenham – Sunday 15 December – Premier League – Both Teams to Score (1.70)

This should be a great game. Wolves are unbeaten in their last 11 league games but their defence has not been as solid as expected. Both Teams to Score has been a winning bet in eight of those games, in fact. Tottenham have won three of their four league games since Jose Mourinho returned to London. They lost at Bayern in midweek but Harry Kane and Dele Alli were among the players to miss out ahead of this game. Both of these players are in form and I think they will drive Tottenham to another win.

Arsenal 1 v 3 Man City – Sunday 15 December – Premier League – Man City Win and Over 2.5 Goals (1.70)

Arsenal’s win against West Ham on Monday was their first victory in the Premier League since October 6th. I can’t see them making it two in a row. It’s been four years since they beat Man City in 90 minutes and they have lost their last five games against Pep Guardiola’s side. They also haven’t won any of their last five games at the Emirates. City have dropped points in their last two league games and the title is out of sight. However, they returned to winning ways with a 4-1 victory over Dinamo Zagreb on Wednesday. I think they will follow that with another three points.
