The fourth edition of the famous University league is set to return this month after its official launch on Friday at Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala. The 2015 campaign that is set to kick-off this week on Thursday 26th will have twelve participants that have been seeded into two groups, A and B.
“It is easy to forget that the Nile Special University Football League was launched just 2 and 1/2 years ago in September 2012. Since that time the league has registered several achievements the biggest one being attracting over 10,000 fans to Namboole Stadium to watch a domestic football competition. This was a huge achievement and shows that Ugandans are still passionate about local sports,” reads Akwech’s (Red Rhino Sponsorships Manager) statement on www.ufl.ug.
In attendance at the launch was Peninah Kabenge, the President of the Association of Uganda University Sports who hailed the university league sponsors, Nile Special and Pepsi, who have been key in the league’s continuity.
“Thanks to our sponsors, especially Nile Special and Pepsi, football talents in our universities have been able to display and develop their skills. We have seen several of our players join Big League and Super League teams and even the Uganda Cranes. These achievements are threatened by student indiscipline and we urge fans to support their teams passionately but responsibly,” Peninah said
