The Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF) President, Eddy Kenzo, has criticized the Uganda National Culture Centre (UNCC) for banning the music of rapper Gravity Omutujju and singer Lil Pazo, stating that the cultural body lacked the authority to impose such a ban without prior engagement with the artists.

Kenzo emphasized that the UNCC should have consulted the artists before making any decisions regarding their music.

“UNCC has no mandate to ban Gravity Omutujju and Lil Pazo’s music. They didn’t engage the artists first, which was supposed to be the proper course of action,” he said while appearing on Sanyuka TV.

The controversy stems from a recent announcement by the UNCC, which branded the music of Gravity Omutujju and Lil Pazo as vulgar.

In addition to the two male artists, singers Shakira Shakiraa and Gloria Bugie were also blacklisted by the UNCC.

The ban includes restrictions on their performance bookings, media appearances, and music airplay.

The debate has sparked discussions within the music industry, with many calling for clearer guidelines and a more transparent approach in handling issues related to content regulation.
