Uganda Cranes today evening wrote new history as they beat Togo 1-0 at Kegue Stadium, Lome much to the excitement of Ugandans. Farouk Miya saved the day with his free kick that encountered a small deflection from Joseph Ochaya before hitting the back of the net with only 5 minutes to half time.

Later on in the game, Cranes’ number one custodian, Dennis Masinde Onyango rose to the occasion as he saved from Mathieu Dossevi penalty to keep Uganda in the lead.

Cranes' goalkeeper Onyango was the day's hero after he saved a penalty to deny Togo a crucial equalizer in the 2018 World Cup qualifier.

Uganda however missed a couple of chances to double their lead with Express’ Ceaser Samson Okhuti missing a keeper-to-beat opportunity after coming on in the second half (76th minute) to replace skipper Goeffery Massa.

Uganda now hold a crucial 1-0 away win against the Sparrow Hawks who they host on Sunday at Namboole Stadium in the return leg, after which the aggregate winner will qualify for the group stages of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.

The team is expected to return home tomorrow (Friday) afternoon.
