Ugandan youngster Bevis Kristofer Kizito Mugabi has finally penned a two-year contract with Premier league side Southampton who are currently fourth on the Barclays’ Premier League table.
The 19-year-old player now becomes the fourth Ugandan to feature in the world’s most exciting league after Joel Kitamirike (Chelsea 2001–2004), Savio Nsereko (West Ham 2009) and Ibra Sekajja (2011-2014) who failed to make his break into the first team.
The central defender joined the Saints in July 2011 after being released by Fulham and has since then impressed his employers at the youth stages of the club playing in the U-18 and the U-19. He has so far scored three goals this season after eight appearances with the goals coming against Chelsea and Everton.
The dual citizenship youngster is still available for Uganda to grab should they pick interest in his skills.
“I am delighted to get it actually signed and all sorted so I can now just focus on my football and prove my place. The next progression for me is first team football, so hopefully I can carry on working hard and prove myself in training and matches,” reads Mugabi’s statements on Southampton’s official website Saintsfc.co.uk.
