Kipper Luwalo, a 15year old and youth skipper at St. Joseph’s College, Layibi and Gulu United is set to join English League One side Brentford FC in January next year. Luwalo who will be joining the United Kingdom based academy early next year to pursue a career in football is a senior one student of St. Joseph’s College Layibi in Gulu district.
The development follows an impressive performance by the young star during his trails early this year in February after being spotted by Brentford FC head Coach, Stuart English, during his two week visit to Uganda last year. Stuart was on a visit in Uganda working with coaches and players in Northern Uganda at a training camp where he helped coach some of the region’s youngsters. Stuart also hailed the players performance during his spell in Uganda and chose only him among the 80 younger stars that were on his watch during the visit.
Luwalo who will be making 16 next month, was taken to Brentford FC, a League One outfit in the English third-tier competition where he impressed both coaches and the technical committee of the club, according to Calvin Okello, the Gulu United youth wing co-ordinator.
In addition to developing his career at the academy, the youngster will also be offered a scholarship to study in the UK however all this will be after an official/formal agreement with Luwalo’s parents together with Gulu united which the young star currently plays for.
According to his coaches at Gulu United, Luwalo can play both as a striker and midfielder and Gulu United management spotted him while he was playing for his former primary school in Gulu and has since then been an outstanding talent.
“From day one Luwalo was calm and great 1-on-1, with a good change of pace,” Coach English Stuart noted on Brentford’s website recently. “The teenager worked hard off the ball and as one of the younger players in my group, he always outstanding.”
According to Okello, Gulu United and Federation of Uganda Football association (FUFA) will handle his transfer accordingly.
