Two Ugandan trainers will be on opposing sides as the greatest boxing fight in history goes down tonight. The fight between Floyd Mayweather and Pacquiao is the talk of this generation that has put the world at a stand-still.
However, unknown to many, two Ugandan trainers will be handling both sides.
The first one will be former world champion Cornelius Boza Edwards, who will be manning the Mayweather corner as a trainer. Boza Edwards, who is Nevada Boxing Hall of Famer inductee, will be one of the corner men by Mayweather’s side when he takes on the WBO World Welterweight champion Pacquiao in the “Super Fight” in Las Vegas.
The Ugandan was the WBC World super featherweight champion after beating Rafael Limon to claim the belt, but eventually lost his crown to Rolando Navarrete on his second defense. He currently works as a trainer at the Mayweather Boxing gym in Las Vegas, Nevada where he trains other boxers and champions at the same time.
On the Pacman’s side will be Justin Jjuko that is currently under the Pacquiao management. Jjuko was knocked out by Mayweather in 1999 and is probably waiting to see the Pacman avenge on his behalf. Jjuko works in the Wild Card Gym of Freddie Roach, who will be the lead corner man for the Phillippines fighter on May 2nd.
In all this, Uganda is the winner, wherever it goes, Uganda is the only country that has control on both sides. Even the ring girl is rumoured to be a Ugandan born.
