Ugandan rapper Navio of the Kata fame has come out to add his voice to the many that have condemned the Anti-Porn law that was passed by parliament recently. This comes after some people in the Old Taxi park in Kampala started undressing women dressing “indecently” to fulfil their own evil desires.
The Klear Kut rapper condemned this with the utmost terms and asked all Ugandans to respect ‘Ugandan daughters’.
Navio who is now a Tusker Twende Kazi TV show contestant, took to social media to express his anger and posted “Just because government passes a Mini-Skirt Law, it doesn’t mean you take matters into your own hands. Make an official Police report if need be! This vigilante street Justice should never involve stripping our beautiful women on the street. These are sisters, mothers and daughters.”
“Respect Ugandan daughters til’ we sort out this temporary political distraction from real issues like child mortality, poverty, medicines, disease. Perverts are taking the opportunity to dishonour women in the street. That is not what we are about as Ugandans.” He concluded.
Many have condemned the law to be gender sided and meant to oppress women. Hon Amama Mbabazi the Prime Minister of Uganda recalled the bill for discussion in Parliament because the word used in the bill ie “indecency” is too broad.
The U.S Government through their Embassy in Uganda also condemned the action of rowdy youths who have been undressing women all in the name of new law. “No country can get ahead if it leaves half of its people behind. This is why the United States believes gender equality is critical to our shared goals of prosperity, stability and peace…” Secretary of State John Kerry.
