It yet another milestone to celebrate by Uganda’s entertainment industry as it hosts one of the biggest musical events around the globe, the MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMAs).
For the first time in the awards history, the 2021 MAMAs are slated to take place on January 20 in Kampala.
On Wednesday 9th, the MAMAs announced its first round nominees out of its official 20 categories.
Ugandan singers, Sheebah Karungi and John Blaq lead with the highest number of nods (two) compared to their fellas.

Sheebah’s first is in the highly contested Best Female category which features fierce female competition with Sho Madjozi and Busiswa from South Africa, Cape Verde’s Soraia Ramos and Simi, Yemi Alade and Tiwa Savage from Nigeria.
John Blaq greatest nomination is in the Best Breakthrough Act, battling with Elaine (South Africa), Tems (Nigeria), Omah Lay (Nigeria), Zuchu (Tanzania), Sha Sha (Zimbabwe), Focalistic (South Africa).

Fabled musical brands such as; Bebe Cool, Sheebah Karungi, John Blaq, Vinka, Daddy Andre and Spice Diana all with showcase an epic battle in the Best Ugandan Act category.
The second round of nominations, including Best Collaboration, Best International, Personality of the Year, Best Alternative Act, Best Fan Base Award and Song of the Year will be revealed from the 5th January 2021 on MTV Base.
The MTV Africa Music Awards Kampala 2021 is brought to you by Uganda, The Pearl of Africa in an effort to promote tourism, wildlife and cultural heritage conservation for the socio-economic development and transformation of Uganda. Sustainable tourism, wildlife and cultural heritage will contribute to transforming Uganda into a modern and prosperous nation.
The MAMAs 2021 will be broadcast on MTVBase and MTV.
