Samson BarangaSamson Baranga of The Observer newspaper is due for treatment in the United States following injuries sustained while taking pictures at the social media tax protests led by Robert Kyagulanyi in July this year.

Baranga, an award winning fashion writer and photographer was assaulted by plain clothed security personnel who left him bruised and with neck problems after he was hit from the back with a baton.

Local hospitals including Kibuli Hospital gave him treatment but reports we have indicate that he has never gotten better. He recently got a chance to travel abroad and he will use his stay to also seek specialized treatment.

Uganda police fired teargas and bullets at social media tax to disperse protesters who had gathered to protest a controversial tax on the use of social media.
