Uganda returned last week from the ITB Berlin Exhibition. This was its 17th attendance at one of the world’s largest annual International Tourism Exhibition that takes place at Messe Berlin, Germany. This expo provides a unique opportunity for the whole global travel trade industry to meet, network, negotiate business and keep abreast with the latest developments in the tourism industry.
This year, Uganda acquired stand space of 120 sqm in Africa Hall 21A, up from 90sqm (Last year) where she showcased, The Pearl of Africa under the theme “Your Eco-friendly Destination”.
Uganda promoted wild life attractions and experiences, adventure tourism, mountaineering, birding, MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Events) and cultural and spiritual events like the Martyrs celebrations in June, among many others.
Uganda also held press conferences at the stand addressed by the State Minister, Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities, Ms. Agnes Akiror along with East African Community representatives and member states.
An East African community cocktail was held. The East African Tourist Visa under the tripartite tourism initiative was also launched with Kenya and Rwanda.
The Deputy Secretary General of the East African Community, responsible for Productive & Social Sectors, Ms. Jessica Eriyo also reiterated East Africa’s readiness to promote regional tourism as a means of forging integration and fostering development in the region.
UTB partnered with the Ministry of Tourism Wildlife and Antiquities, Uganda Wildlife Authority,Civil Aviation Authority, Brussels Airlines, Uganda Coffee Development Authority and the Uganda Embassy in Berlin, to ensure a successful show by Uganda in Germany.
Uganda’s delegation was on the last night, hosted to a dinner by Uganda’s Ambassador to Germany, Amb. Marcel Tibaleka at his residence in Berlin.
