Uganda Telecom has today announced its contribution worth shs20 million to CEDA international for the seventh annual women mentorship walk scheduled for November 15, 2014. As part of its contribution, Uganda Telecom donated T-shirts to be used by all participants during the walk.
This year’s mentorship walk under the theme “Turning point” is aimed at providing a platform for engagement and mentorship amongst established women and emerging professional women. Last year, Uganda joined 23 countries across the globe to mark the sixth mentorship walk, attracting two thousand participants from schools, public and private institutions and non- government institutions.
This year, CEDA international aims at registering two thousand five hundred participants for the mentorship walk that will start from Centenary Park at 7:30AM to Kitante Primary School from where other activities including showcasing of women’s products, fashion show, poetry, music dance and drama amongst other activities.
Speaking at the handover event, Mrs. Sarah Kiyingi- Uganda Telecom’s Group Chief- Government, Corporate and CSR Liaison Officer said women need to support each other to prosper in this era.
“For the past few years, we have seen women take up strong leadership positions, many of whom have prospered and made revolutionary changes in our society. In our country, almost every person looks at the work women like Allen Kagina, Jennifer Musisi, Rebecca Kadaga to mention but a few have done and we are all pleased. As a proudly Ugandan brand, we have pledged our support to CEDA international in their effort to empower women mentally, physically and psychologically,” Mrs. Kiyingi said.
Rehmah Kasule, founder of CEDA international while receiving the contribution at the handover ceremony called upon all citizens to take part in the mentorship walk as part of the struggle for women emancipation.
“This year, we expect a better turn up than last year as more women embrace prosperity through mentorship. We will be expecting Hon. Mary Karooro Okurut and Mr. Scott DeLisi to officiate the walk and I would like to encourage all responsible citizens, especially the women to be part of this life changing moment,” Kasule said.
