Uganda’s national beach soccer team, the ‘Uganda Sand Cranes’ finally safely returned home yesterday after their long to trip to Zanzibar where they had travelled for an international friendly with the Sand Heroes of Zanzibar.
The Sand Cranes managed to overcome the Sand Heroes with a 5-4 victory at the Bamboo Sand beach in Bububu on Sunday in a buildup match for both teams ahead of their participation in the forth coming AFCON Beach Soccer Championships that will be hosted by Seychelles in April 2015.
The lads that travelled by bus to and fro arrived yesterday at around 10:40am at the Kati kati restaurant according to the Federation’s website and were welcomed by Deo Mutabaazi, Chairman, Uganda Beach Soccer Association (UBSA) and Decolas Kizza, the FUFA Finance Director.
“We thank God for the safe journey mercies and the trip, besides our victory in an international match was fruitful in many ways. We learnt how to play under intense pressure, we got strong links and soon the first East Africa Copa Beach Soccer will take place next year”, Mutabazi said while addressing the media.
