Uganda Rugby Union partners with MTN MoMo ahead of Rugby Africa Cup

MTN MoMo Uganda Ltd has announced a new partnership with the Uganda Rugby Union

The Uganda Rugby Union has partnered with MTN MoMo Uganda Ltd to facilitate ticketing for the highly anticipated Rugby Africa Cup. The partnership which was announced on Monday marks a significant milestone in promoting sports and enhancing the fan experience through convenient and accessible ticketing solutions.

Speaking at the partnership launch held at the Mandela National Stadium-Namboole, the Uganda Rugby Union CEO, Isaac Lutwama, noted that the partnership with MTN MoMo is a significant step towards revolutionizing the way fans engage with the Rugby Africa Cup.

“The ease of purchasing tickets through the MoMo app, coupled with the attractive early bird discounts, will undoubtedly enhance the overall experience for our supporters. We are excited to welcome fans to enjoy world-class rugby in Uganda,” Lutwama said.

Alex Wekoye, the MTN MoMo Chief Commercial Officer said that their partnership with the Uganda Rugby Union aligns with MTN MoMo’s commitment to enhancing the convenience and accessibility of services for its customers.

“We are thrilled to partner with the Uganda Rugby Union for the Rugby Africa Cup. By offering exclusive discounts and seamless ticket purchasing through the MTN MoMo app, we aim to provide rugby fans with an unparalleled experience,” Wekoye said.

John Isabirye, the MoMo Cashless Lead at MTN Uganda noted that the partnership between MTN MoMo and the Uganda Rugby Union will enable a seamless experience for the fans.

“Apart from the discounted tickets on the MoMo platform, fans will have access to MTN and MTN MoMo services available at the games, as well as discounted prices on food, beverages and merchandise purchased using MoMoPay during the games,” Isabirye said.

As the Rugby fraternity gears up for the Rugby Africa Cup, this collaboration underscores the importance of leveraging technology to improve access and engagement in sports.

The Rugby Africa Cup is a continental men’s rugby union tournament organized by Rugby Africa. The 2024 edition of the tournament features eight nations including Burkina Faso, Namibia, Senegal, Kenya, Algeria, Cote d’Ivoire, Zimbabwe, and host nation Uganda.

The Rugby Africa Cup, scheduled to start on July 18th to 29th at the Mandela National Stadium-Namboole and the Wankulukuku stadium, will feature three ticket categories: Ordinary, VIP, and VVIP. Fans can purchase their tickets with ease, taking advantage of exclusive early bird discounts available only through the MTN MoMo app.
