After a long while of many questionable decisions made by the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) as regards to the kick-off of the new season of 2014/15, the federation has finally pronounced its position by setting a new and final date for its kick-off. It’s well known that the federation had set 22nd August as the kick-off date for the new season but it was later extended to 2nd September 2014. On the 2nd of September, the league still didn’t kick-off as planned following a court injunction stopping its kick-off after Big League side, Maroons filed a case against the federation regarding its relegation from the super league.
Due to the incident, the league was re-extended to 12th September as the kick-off date but for some unexplained reasons, it still didn’t kick-off. The unpopular re-extensions of the league caused tension and frustration in some league clubs like Kiira Young, as they went on to accuse FUFA for inconsistency that led them into making improper decisions as regards to the management of their clubs. Kiira Young club director, Jimmy Lukwago said that they were fed up of the re-extensions of the league and allegations had it that he had threatened to quit.
In a statement on the football governing body’s website, FUFA wrote; “Federation of Uganda Football Associations wishes to clarify to the clubs that after the successful meditation, court granted a go – ahead to proceed with the kick-off of the league. The league which was scheduled to start Friday, 12th September 2014 will instead commence on Friday, 19th September 2014 with the missed games to be rescheduled later.”
