Uganda Police Enforces Strict Laws on Musicians’ Entourages

The Uganda Police Force has announced new regulations limiting the number of individuals allowed in a musician’s entourage to prevent security risks and promote public safety.

Patrick Onyango

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango, artists are now restricted to moving with no more than five people.

This group should include a DJ, manager, secretary, treasurer, and one security personnel.

“Any artist who violates this directive will be arrested and charged immediately,” Onyango stated.

The decision comes in the wake of a violent clash between the entourages of popular singers Pallaso and Alien Skin during the “Empele” festival in Buloba, Wakiso District, last week.

The confrontation resulted in property damage and left several people injured, prompting widespread concern.

The police emphasized that these measures aim to prevent similar incidents and ensure peaceful coexistence at entertainment events.

Artists and their management teams have been urged to adhere strictly to the regulations to avoid legal consequences.

The announcement has sparked mixed reactions from the public, with some praising the move for prioritizing safety, while others argue it may limit artists’ freedom.

As enforcement begins, Uganda’s security bodies remain firm in their resolve to maintain order in the country’s entertainment industry.

This decision reflects a lack of maturity and consideration, and I believe the @PoliceUg can perform better. A few years ago, I suggested that you issue licenses to musicians, similar to practices in developed countries. A license serves as a regulatory tool for artists, and revocation of such a license carries specific consequences. Consider the scenario where an artist is scheduled to perform live with their entire team, yet they are prevented from doing so. These artists rely on their support groups, and in recent years, fans have resorted to throwing bottles at them due to political affiliations, even in the presence of law enforcement. Individuals like @Ray_G_official have faced these challenges. It is essential to allow these artists to protect themselves; your role is to maintain law and order. Policing should not be about enforcing laws arbitrarily; rather, laws must be established through the @Parliament_Ug with careful consideration of operational methods. When fans were throwing bottles at musicians, why did you not intervene and enforce the same regulations? @AlienSkin ug #alienskinug #pallaso #fyp
