The Uganda Police Force has disclosed the reasons behind the arrest of Bobi Young, a close associate of singer-turned-politician Bobi Wine.
In a statement released on Thursday, the police revealed that the arrest was part of an ongoing operation targeting illegal security attire and equipment in the country.
Bobi Young, whose real name is Twinomijuni Anthony, was apprehended during an intelligence-led operation at his home in Mutungo Zone II, Nakawa Division, Kampala.
The police recovered several items from his premises, including ranks resembling those of a UPDF 4-star general, a walkie-talkie, berets similar to those used by the military police, and two pairs of desert military shoes.
The police have charged Bobi Young with illegal possession of government stores and inciting violence. Following his arrest, he has been handed over to the Joint Anti-Terrorism Taskforce (JATT) for further management.
The police emphasized that the operation is ongoing and aims to curb the misuse of security attire and equipment.
This is not the first time Bobi Young has been in police custody. Earlier this year, he was arrested for undisclosed reasons, causing concern among his friends and family. He was released on bail after nearly four months in detention.
The recent developments have drawn attention to the government’s efforts to regulate security-related paraphernalia and prevent their misuse.
The police have assured the public that they will continue their operations to ensure national security and public safety.
