Uganda Named 16TH Best in Africa In September FIFA Rankings.

Uganda Cranes are the 16th in Africa and 79th in the world according to the September FIFA/Coca Cola rankings released on Thursday in Zurich. The monthly rankings have seen the Uganda Cranes move two places from being the 81st as of the August FIFA rankings to the 79th position. Uganda has gathered 418 Points. 

It should be remembered that Uganda were in the 87th position as of the July rankings and moved six positions to sit 81st in the following month (August). The 2015 AFCON qualifiers in which the Cranes have exhibited a good performance have been core in their progress to the 79th position as of now from the 87th in July and 81st in August. 

Uganda has exhibited a great performance this month beginning with their 1-1 draw with Ghana in Kumasi during the group E opener of the 2015 Morocco AFCON qualifiers that left the Ghanaians speaking in tongues. The Cranes then continued with a clinical home win (2-0) at Namboole against Guinea Bissau five days after their Ghana clash. 

Uganda is among the 208 member states affiliated to the world’s football governing body, FIFA (Federation of International Football Associations) and the next rankings will be released on 23rd October 2014.

A brief summary of the rankings:

Best In Africa: Algeria retained their number one spot in Africa and are ranked 20th in the entire world with 926 Points.
NB: Togo who Uganda plays next in qualifiers at Namboole are now ranked 125th in the whole world.

Best in CECAFA Region: As for the Cecafa region, Uganda remains the king of the region with 418 points followed by Rwanda in second position coming with 349 points and ranked 93rd in whole world.

World’s Biggest Movers: This month’s biggest movers are Guatemala, whose three wins in four matches in the qualifiers for the CONCACAF Gold Cup 2015 have seen the team led by Coach Victor Monzon leap by 77 places to 57th in the table.
