A new award event seeking to recognize and honor Ugandan musicians has been launched.
Dubbed “The Uganda Music Awards” (TUMA), they were launched at a ceremony attended by different stakeholders in the music industry on Monday at Kampala Serena Hotel.
According to the organizers, The Uganda Music Awards seek to be part of the process of bringing back credibility and respect to the profession of being a musician while recognizing outstanding artistic achievement, technical proficiency and performance excellence.
Following the launch on Monday, the nomination process is now officially open and nominations can be submitted through partner media houses, social media, SMS platforms and TUMA mobile app.
Some of the categories for nominations include; Artist of the year, Best Male Artist, Best Female Artist, Song of the Year, Best Instrumentalist, Best Urban Artiste, Best Reggae/Ragga/Dancehall Artist, Best Hip Hop Artist, Best Afro Pop Artist, Best Traditional Artiste/Group, Best New Artiste, Best Regionals (North, East, West and Central), Best Dance Crew, Best Music Video, Best Producer, Fans Choice Award Gospel Artiste of the year, Best Artist in the diaspora Best Afro-fusion.
The nomination process will close at midnight on 21st April, 2017. There will also be nation-wide activations leading up to the grand award ceremony which is slated for August 4th.
