Last evening, several people were soaked in grievous news of the passing of Esther Nakajjigo (Essie), one of the phenomenal young activists the country has ever had.

According to her brother, John Ssekindu, Essie died in the USA where she has been pursuing a Master’s Degree in humanitarian-related studies at the University of Colorado.

Her death came on Sunday evening when she had gone for a Picnic with her two friends during stormy-rainfall weather. This yielded a vigorous wind uninstalled a shopping mall gate that hit the car where they were seated, leaving only one of them alive.

At the age of 25, Essie has been the ambassador for women and girls, a non-governmental organization in Uganda, and run by the International Women and Girls Forum.

Her passion and vibrancy have been drawn to ending teenage pregnancies and advocating for girls and women’s rights.

Her latest dream was championing for girl-child education and combating issues of rape and defilement in every country.

Esther’s popular ‘Women and power’ program burst to limelight in 2015 when she was just 19years old.

According to Esther’s father, John Bosco Mulangira, the Late drew her inspiration for changing people’s lives from the environment she grew up in.

“She had a dream of making lives in the Ghetto better, she always felt uncomfortable seeing prostitutes and the life they were living,” stated Mr. Mulangira.

“I was rich in my heart because of my daughter Esther. She always told me not to be worried as everything would be fine,” he added.

Fabled names in the country have also joined the mourning with Esther’s family and are determined to render their endless support in such trying times.

“Esther Nakajjigo, a young Ugandan activist, devoted her life to the rights of women & girls. Very sad we lost her at such a young age; moreover, now when girls experience heightened violations. I join her family in the push to have her body brought home from the US,” stated Hon. Bobi Wine on his social media.

One of Nakijjigo’s most recent activations in Uganda was the teenage pregnancy prevention campaign in Maddu sub-county, Gomba district in 2017.

The family of the deceased are currently asking the Government to aid them to repatriate her body for a decent burial.
