As the 2013 African rally championship draws nearer, Jas Mangat a rally driver is working hard to lift the trophy, however, his work may be made easier with fellow drivers Ismail Otega, Jonas Kansiime, Edson Mungyereza and Abbas Bukenya showing keen interest in participating in the forth-coming Rwanda do or die rally, which would help set pace for the Ugandan rally driver.
It will take place on 20th, September 2013. Ponsiano Lwakataka, who missed the Eastern challenge rally in April, has also humbly begged FMU to take part in the Rwanda rally for him to score points on NRC from Rwanda and he was endorsed but is yet to confirm his participation.
If focus is shifted to Lwakataka, Mangat will have breathing gap and this could help him win the rally. Though without any pacesetters, Mangat has not failed to finish in any of the rally that he has participated in on ARC calendar this year. He is leading with 83 points as he finished the Zambia, Tanzania, Kenya and the Pearl of Africa rally in Uganda.
However, the championship is quite a tricky one for Mangat because has to get a podium position because Jessy Singh who is behind Mangat with 17 points is to participate in the rally. If Mangat goes ahead to win the Mountain Gorilla rally he will automatically be announced African rally champion even with the Madagascar rally left to go. Rwanda’s Giancarlo Dative might also have more chances of winning the rally by use of home advantage.
