Uganda Coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic has warned that his team will not promise miracles at the 2013 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup which starts in Nairobi, Kenya on Wednesday.
Before the team departed today for Nairobi, the Serbian said as defending champions they are going to be under lots of pressure to impress.
“This is a tournament we are using to prepare the team for the 2014 Africa Nations Championship and the boys are aware they must impress,” added the tactician.
The Cranes will open their campaign against traditional rivals Rwanda on November 29 at the Machokos Stadium, 61km out of the capital Nairobi.
“The #SamsungTwitterParty is back! Get ready to party the night away come 19th December at Zone 7 with fellow tweeps. Entrance is 15,000shs. Call 0775439894 for details. Great music and drinks.”
“Our first step will be to give a good account in the group stages so that we qualify for the knockout stages,” explained Micho.
He said he expects the three professionals, Daniel Sserunkuma, Hamis Kizza and Khalid Aucho, to make an impact on the team. The Cranes will be staying at the Mulele Hotel in Machakos.
Nicholas Musonye, the CECAFA Secretary General told MTNFootball.com this afternoon that they expect all teams to be in Kenya by Tuesday.
“We expect to have a very competitive tournament with explosive football. We call upon fans in the region, especially Kenyans, to come in big numbers and grace the tournament,” added Musonye.
The tournament to be played in Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu will this year have guest side Zambia and 11 CECAFA member nations: Kenya, Zanzibar, Tanzania, Burundi, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Sudan, South Sudan, Eritrea, Somalia and defending champions Uganda.
