The Uganda Tourism Month and World Tourism Day 2024 have been launched at Fair Way Hotel with the theme “Tourism and Peace.”

This theme highlights the role of tourism in fostering unity, development, and harmony within the nation.

Hon. Bahinduka Martin Mugarra

Hon. Bahinduka Martin Mugarra, Minister of Tourism, Wildlife, and Antiquities, emphasized that tourism is a powerful tool for connecting people, cultures, and communities.

It promotes understanding, tolerance, and mutual respect among diverse groups.

In a time when conflicts often dominate the news, the theme “Tourism and Peace” underscores the positive impact of travel in building bridges and encouraging dialogue.

Tourism contributes significantly to economic growth by creating jobs, boosting local businesses, and attracting investment. It also fosters social transformation through cultural exchange and community engagement.

By promoting peace, tourism helps create a stable environment necessary for sustainable development.

This year’s main celebrations will be held in the Rwenzori region, specifically in Kasese.

The choice of Kasese is symbolic, as the region has faced challenges, including recent attacks, but stands as a testament to resilience and the potential for transformation through tourism.

Kasese’s experience with conflict and instability makes it a fitting example of how tourism can foster peace and reconciliation.

The region’s story of recovery highlights the transformative power of tourism in rebuilding communities and restoring hope. Celebrations in Kasese will also showcase the Rwenzori Mountains, known as the “Mountains of the Moon,” which offer a range of activities from hiking to cultural exploration.

The theme “Tourism and Peace” is particularly poignant for Kasese.

Miss Tourism Uganda concludes regional search

Despite its hardships, the region’s rich cultural heritage and stunning landscapes make it a symbol of the potential for tourism to heal and unite.

By focusing on Kasese, Uganda is sending a strong message about the capacity of tourism to overcome adversity and pave the way for a peaceful and prosperous future.
