Uganda Breweries Limited on Thursday announced the 2019 intake of their Graduate Trainee Programme that is aimed at molding fresh, talented graduates and equipping them with the necessary skills needed to succeed in the job market.

UBL has for over 10 years carried on the Graduate Trainee Programme where they admit and introduce graduates to the world of business by giving them a real job experience and formal training in their career progression.

Graduate Trainee Programmes have over the years become an important instrument in attracting talented young people to the employment world, and are commonly popular with banks and insurance companies. Trainees on the Programme take on responsibility in various departments and are given supporting training measures and mentorship by experienced managers.

Speaking during the press conference, Uganda Breweries Human Resources Director Catherine Khabure, said, “We at UBL believe that the key to developing a sustainable expert workforce is by contributing towards developing their knowledge base and giving them hands on field practice. With our Graduate Trainee Programme, we provide a platform for young people to learn from the greatest experts and senior leaders in the business. By the end of the Programme, the trainees have acquired strong professional experience that will allow them to be competitive in the job market.”

Out of the many applications that were received for this year’s Programme, 6 fresh graduates were successful and are being taken on to join the Sales, Marketing, Finance, Human Resources, Corporate Relations, and Supply Logistics departments at Uganda Breweries.

“We developed the Programme to help recent graduates plan for the future and to show them what it is like to be a part of the business world. During the course of the Programme, each graduate will be attached to an assigned trained mentor who will support and coach them to reach their full potential in their assigned field,” Khabure said. She added that the training would last three years, with the graduates being rotated in the various departments annually. Which include training from across UBL sister companies within Diageo.

The Graduate Trainee Programme is open to all fresh graduates who are interested in getting practical skills from highly qualified professionals. To be eligible to participate in the Programme, candidates must be unemployed graduates at the time of application without prior working experience and must hold a first class bachelor’s degree in any discipline from recognized institutions of higher learning.

The Programme has an annual opening with a call of application advertised in mainstream media and UBL online media.
