Uganda Amputee Cranes defeated the UPDF Amputee team in a friendly match played at Mengo SS playground on Thursday afternoon.
The game started out slow, and after the first half it was still goalless. It finally picked up pace after Alex Mugerwa scored for Uganda Amputee Cranes early in the second half. He would later score again in the dying minutes of the game to double their lead and seal his side’s victory.
Speaking on the sidelines, Lule Keizer from Betin, who are the Uganda Amputee Cranes sponsors, affirmed their commitment to offer more support to the team as amputee soccer continues to grow in Uganda.
The match came as part of the activities of the Rena annual expo which is organised by Rena Community Development Association. According to Twaha Katende, the Executive Director Rena Community Development Association the expo is aimed at making people with disability in Uganda feel included in the country’s development and to empower them both economically and talent-wise.
