UG Records, a music label owned by media gurus Darius Mugisha and Henry Ssali, has been relaunched. The music label which was started in 2009 returns after a six-year hiatus and was announced to be back in business at a re-launch party held at Lit Lounge, Bukoto on Thursday evening.
Addressing guests who included mainly players in the entertainment industry like artiste managers, deejays, TV and Radio presenters among others, Darius Mugisha revealed that they are back stronger and are committed to making the music label a hub for Uganda’s next big stars.
The re-launch party was also used to unveil the label’s new signings, Wendy and Roger Kent, who entertained guests at the event and also premiered their new music. Wendy premiered a new video dubbed Wotoba, while Roger Kent unveiled Cheza Mummy video.
Wendy, real name Wendy Kisakye, is a bubbly 20-year-old who first came to the public’s attention after her tribute song to the late Mowzey Radio went viral. “Music has always been my passion and my music coming to life makes me proud. The confidence I have in myself has grown and so has my faith in what I still want to achieve,” said Wendy.
Roger Kent, who is also a song-writer and producer, noted that, “We have been working on our music for a few months now and it has truly been a long time coming. Working with the UG Records team has been an amazing experience and milestone for me and I’m excited to be sharing the work that we have been putting together.”
