UBL Captain Morgan Gold pirates launch

By Staff Writer
Hey hey Ho ho yo ho, there’s a new Captain in town, Captain Morgan Gold. Get on Board. Hey hey Ho ho
This week, Uganda Breweries Limited launched Captain Morgan Gold onto the Ugandan market at an exclusive invite only party on a Pirates’ ship at Portbell Pier, Luzira. The new expertly blended rum is an addition to Uganda Breweries Limited’s collection of Rums, whiskeys, gins, cognac, scotch, vodka and beers.
Extending its Captain Morgan Legacy, UBL’s Marketing Director Juliana Kagwa says UBL is introducing a new flavour of Captain Morgan to meet market demands that now favour different blends and flavours.

“In an industry like ours that is fast moving, consumer needs and tastes are constantly evolving. In addition, over the last couple of years, we have witnessed a growing consumer preference for spirits. We continue to listen to our customers and carry out market research to meet their ever-changing needs. The introduction of Captain Morgan Gold is proof of our ambition as Uganda Breweries to lead in innovations in our market,” Ms. Kagwa said.

The delicious, smooth golden rum with vanilla spice flavour comes in 250ml and 750ml packs and retailing at Shs. 10,000 and Shs. 30,000 respectively.
The launch was a beautiful night, with a Captain Morgan Gold cocktail in one hand, a generous plate of BBQ in the other hand and a cool breeze to wash it all down. The Innovations Team at Uganda Breweries LTD turned an abandoned ship at Portbell Pier into a rustic pirate venue. With red black and white dotting the ship, the Captain Morgan look was one to marvel at as guests walked in by 4pm. The launch was on a boat to fit the brand’s essence and association with Captains and Pirates.

Captain Morgan’s Global Brand Ambassador Captain David was flown in by the Diageo group from New York for the colourful event. He didn’t spare a moment to make his presence felt. His tall stature and flamboyantly elaborate pirate costume drew wide stares but it was his loud and animated persona that attracted revellers to dance and take selfies with him. He was the perfect lime topping for this cocktail pirates party.

The Captain Morgan brand is inspired by a legendary sailor who lived a life full of adventure and fun times with his crew. It is world famous for being fun and enjoyed around the world by young adult consumers dating back to 1944 when it was first produced.
A secret recipe of spice and natural flavours that are expertly blended with fine Caribbean rum – then aged – create a taste and colour for a smooth and refreshing tasting drink. The rum is best served in a tankard over ice, with cola and a slice of lime.

UBL continues to lead the market with new innovations including Uganda Waragi Pineapple and Coconut Flavours, Black and White Whiskey, Pilsner Lager.

Uganda’s very own Miss Uganda 2018 Quiin Abenakyo won the title of Miss World Africa and finished in 4th place out of 118 contestants at the Miss World 2018 pageant which took place in Sanyu City Arena, China on December 8th, 2018. This was the best finish for Uganda in the history of the annual beauty pageant.

Quiin Abenakyo’s stunning looks combined with her intellect, personality and impressive “beauty with a purpose” project impressed the judges throughout the competition. After Quiin won the head to head challenge and was confirmed in the top 40 semi-finalists, the entire nation got behind her to rally for votes. The online voting campaign was enhanced by numerous celebrities, socialites, influencers, politicians and corporate companies who showed support on their social media pages.

Earlier this year in April, Miss Uganda franchise holders Kezzi Entertainment announced their new joint venture partnership with Talent Africa, Uganda’s leading event, talent and entertainment company. Talent Africa promised to bring glamour, flair and showbiz to the Miss Uganda Pageant. After an extremely competitive judging process which at times faced mixed feelings from the public, the Miss Uganda team remained positive and promised to send a beauty queen that could compete on a international level at Miss World. With Quiin Abenakyo’s success at Miss World, it is clear the that judges made the right choice. The judging panel consisted of Brenda Nanyonjo, Sylvia Namutebi, Stella Nantumbwe, Nana Kagga, Brian Ahumuza, Maggie Kigozi and Zari Hassan amongst others.

The Miss Uganda pageant and Miss World journey is brought to you by Kezzi Entertainment and Talent Africa in conjunction with the sponsors:

Sheraton Kampala Hotel, Holiday Territory, Pan Afric Group, Princess Pads, Luc Belaire, Virginia Black Whiskey, Oakwood Decor, Photo 4 Fashion, RadioCity 97fm, NBS TV, Reach a Hand Foundation, Spruced, Smukke Lashes, Chris Hair, Beats By Dyrk, Jefferson Bridal Beauty Salon and UNAA Causes.
