Mutyaba Muzamiru and Tom Masiko scored two goals in two minutes while Joseph Ochaya opened the scoring for KCCA as they thrashed Al Shandy 3-0 to progress to the semifinals of the CECAFA Kagame Cup.
Their failure to score so many goals at the tournament is what made them look like the underdogs before heading into this game but all that changed when Joseph Ochaya opened the scoring at the quarter-hour mark.
The Kasasiro Boys continued to look the brighter side as the game matured and missed a couple of chances before recess. Their first half 1-0 lead continued to drive their passion into the second half as they hyped the temple of the game.
In the 76th minute, Muzamiru Mutyaba doubled the lead for the Yellow boys after converting a penalty. The spot kick followed a foul on KCCA captain Tom Masiko by Faoz in the forbidden area.
Barely a minute after, Masiko caught Al Shandy off guard before punishing them with the last stroke that broke their back and making it 3-0 for KCCA in the process.
“We missed many chances and we shall work on that because the next stage we are moving in will be a crucial one and utilizing the chances will be our priority. We are not ready to stop in semi-finals. We are determined to end in the finals at least,” said Masiko.
Masiko was also voted man of the match after scoring one goal and creating another in the second half.
KCCA’s assistant manager Sam Ssimbwa asserted that heading into this game was an exam which they managed to pass. “We have been training and improving here and there. This game was an examination and we have passed it.” said coach Sam in a post-match conference.
“I knew they were going to win. We came to compete, not participate and any team to win the title should have to compete so that is why I knew a competing team KCCA was going to win,” Ssimbwa added.
