Twitter turns 8 years old today (March 21) and is marking the occasion by helping individuals rediscover their first tweet.
The microblogging service has launched a website called first-tweets.com, which allows users to search for the debut post made by any account.
“Millions of prolific tweeters have made Twitter an exciting, fun and powerful place to connect with others,” said Gabriel Stricker, Twitter’s vice president of marketing and communications. “But each of you had to start somewhere.”
The world’s first tweet was posted on March 21, 2006 by Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey, who wrote “Just setting up my twttr.”
Dorsey’s original tweet has received more than 22,500 retweets and been favourited over 20,700 times in the eight years that have elapsed since.
Twitter is encouraging account holders to use the hashtag #FirstTweet to join in with its birthday celebrations.
