Twitter is adding new search filters to its mobile apps on Android and iOS.
Users will soon be able to filter searches for specific topics like photos or videos, according to a Twitter blog post released Tuesday.
Another filter allows users to search exclusively from those they follow, and won’t return tweets from strangers. Users will be able to alternate between top tweets and all tweets right at the top of the search screen.
The new update will also include a new “trending timeline” that lists which television shows and nearby events are trending on the platform. This timeline will be visible to users when they click on the “discover” tab within the app.
Twitter’s search limitations have always been a point of frustration for avid Twitter users. Finding a specific tweet or series of tweets is not always easy with so much content routinely flowing through a user’s Twitter feed. The company tried to address this with the addition of the blue line in August, an actual line on the screen that connects tweets that are part of the same conversation.
The feature is meant to resurface tweets on your feed as others you follow respond to them. That way, if a person responds to a tweet hours later, you can see the original tweet alongside the response for added context.
The lines weren’t (and still aren’t) very popular with some users.
The updates should be available now on both Google Play and in the App Store, according to a Twitter spokesperson.
