Twaweza ‘Ni Sisi’ under their ‘Talk Less and Act Now’ campaign have worked with several Ugandan musicians to educate youths in Western Uganda through music. Many artistes have been lined up for this activity that will see them entertain the youth with their music to help change society. The musicians under this project include; Santana, Coco Finger, Rockie Giant, Gravity Omutujju, Professor Big Eye and Gift of Kaddo to mention but a few. Areas visited include, Masaka and Mbarara.
The Twaweza initiative focuses on encouraging the youth to stand up and develop Uganda. The music events are organized for this very cause.
According to the organizers, the artistes are part of the initiative because of their inspirational music which encourages the youth to get out of their comfort zones and work hard to effect positive change in the communities where they live.
The artistes travel in one bus together from one venue to another. Stage and sound system management is done by Fenon under Steve Jean.
When we talked to one of the artistes, Santana, about the campaign, here is what he had to say:
“The Twaweza campaign basically cautions society to ACT, society does alot of talking and little of acting. Today people have the power to act and change a few things that may cause injustice or unfairness but they choose not to because it’s easier and they feel it’s someone else’s burden.” He pointed out.
He went on to throw more light about the message in some of his songs:
“The Message in ‘Nembyelabila’ is that people should not forget their duty to society. The message in ‘Byagezesa’ is that you shouldn’t be afraid to try something new, it could be a vehicle for change. The massage in ‘Oyogela Bubi’ is that people are not cautious enough about what they say and do. Basically TWAWEZA is bringing Positive Change in society and acting NOW!” He concluded.
