Kampala, 30th August, 2013: – Uganda Breweries Limited, through its premium brand Tusker Malt Lager is putting back Ugandan golf on the regional map by sponsoring the Uganda Open for the third consecutive year.
The 71st edition of the Uganda Amateur Open Golf Championship is scheduled for 5th – 8th September, 2013 at the Entebbe Golf Club and Tusker Malt Lager has injected over UGX 100,000,000 into this year’s tournament as commitment to support the development of golf in Uganda.

Making the announcement, Mrs. Grace Nshemeire Gwaku, Uganda Breweries Limited Marketing Director said, “Golf is fast becoming a lifestyle preference for a considerable number of Ugandans and Tusker Malt Lager will continue with the sponsorship of premier golf events such as the Uganda Open which allow us to support the development of the game, as well as connect with customers by sharing their passion and interests.”
Set to be played over 18 holes, the Uganda Open will see over 200 international top class golfers and unseeded local players in both amateur and professional ranks tee off in what is expected to be a competitive and exciting four-day competition.
“The Uganda Open has generated much excitement amongst local players as well as a contingent of international names who will help add a keen edge to the fixture. This is the 71st edition of the Uganda Open it is attracting a formidable field, said Mr. Amos Nzeyi, President of the Uganda Golf Union”.
Speaking at the press conference to announce the sponsorship, Mrs. Grace Nshemeire Gwaku said “I thank the Uganda Golf Union who have done a great job managing this prestigious championship. To the all the golfers who will participate this year, we wish you all the best; Ugandan golf fans are waiting for a local champion”.
Mr. Amos Nzeyi acknowledged Tusker Malt Lager’s support for the golfing fraternity saying that the competition is expected to be tougher than ever this year.
For the tournament, Tusker Malt Lager has lined up a range of activities designed to engage spectators and corporate guests.
