Tunisia could face a ban from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) following their unlawful protests and accusations over the poor officiating of their the quarter final tie against Equatorial Guinea at this year’s Africa Cup of Nation in a game that ended 2-1 after extra time in favor of Equatorial Guinea.
Tunisia’s discontentedness arose after a late dubious penalty was awarded to Equatorial Guinea resulting into a one-all draw at the end of the 90 minutes of the game before Guinea buried it in extra time.
Due to the incidents, Tunisia sent a protest letter to CAF. “I would like to state that during the Tunisia FA executive Committee meeting held on Wednesday, it was decided that the protest letter sent to CAF was based on the poor officiating on the Tunisian- Equatorial Guinea match. CAF did take measures to punish the match referee. Tunisia was right in demanding for action. The content of the letter remains that the match official committed a multitude of errors. We have on the other hand sent a letter seeking audience with CAF executive for details and where applicable an answer for our requests”, reads a brief from Nabil Daboussi, the Tunisia FA spokesperson on Supersport.com.
The continental football governing body disregarded their claims due to lack of concrete evidence and had given Tunisia until yesterday midnight to submit an official apology letter or else they would suffer the consequences like being banned from the 2017 AFCON qualifiers.
According to Supersport, Tunisia FA have adamantly refused to apologize and now await their fate.
