Like I predicted, the terrains will be rugged for Tubonga Nawe artists after the elections. Radio and Weasel have registered the first batch of the bitter fruits. Their Dubai show flopped like rotten tomatoes in Nakawa market.
After singing for thousands at NRM rallies they found themselves in unfamiliar territory entertaining empty seats sandwiched by a dozen of fans. Here is how they reacted.
“Why wake up stressing when waking up is a blessing? Thank you Dubai and thanks to everyone that turned up. Thanks for the love and we appreciate it big time. To those fellows who worked hard to sabotage the show and who circulated messages telling people to absconde the show we also thank for exercising your right . It’s all good with us since we know inside of all of us there’s the need and the desire to be heard, to have our innermost thoughts, feelings and desires expressed for others to see and understand. The truth is your anger, resentment and jealousy doesn’t change the hearts of others but only changes yours. We aren’t perfect humanbeings, but we always strive to be the best versions of ourselves we can be. We don’t live for people’s acceptance because the day that will happen we shall die from rejection. You’re free to love us or hate us but we shall still be Radio and Weasel. We have learnt in our lives that when the answer is “NO” there is a better “YES” down the road. And wow the “better yes” graced the show and they’re those who matter. We can’t make everybody happy, we aren’t a jar of Nutella. To those who worked hard to sabotage the show be calm because in our lives we have learnt sometimes not getting what you want is a wonderful stroke of luck. Maybe you’ll get lucky next time but please keep this in mind it doesn’t matter what you’re doing, what matters to us is want we are doing; And our value doesn’t decrease based on your inability to see our worth. We are who we are, not who the world wants us to be. Our mum once told us “don’t force pieces that don’t fit” Those who fit in our cycle irrespective of our imperfection welcome to our world. We trust our own instincts, live by our own values, do our own dreams and quickly dismiss the chattering opinions of the critics around us. DUBAI THANK YOU FOR THE LOVE!!”
