When they took part in the Tubonga Nawe project that saw President Museveni returning to power, many musicians didn’t know that their decision would cost them a lot of their fans.
Days after Museveni was announced the winner of the election, fans went up in arms against artistes who took part in his campaign. Fans not only threatened to snub all their concerts to make them realize that they supported the ‘wrong’ artiste, but also refused show up at some of the shows to make their point.
Musicians like Radio and Weasel were surprised when only a handful of fans showed up in Dubai for their show shortly before Haruna Mubiru received very few fans at a UK show.
Although some big headed singers who trust their fan base have insisted on continuing with their concert plans like Bebe Cool who will have his concert in August this year, some have chickened out to avoid embarrassment. One of such artiste is a popular songstress who had taken a break from music following the loss of a loved one only to say that she would return in 2016 for shows with a bang.
She recently turned down an abroad gig because she suspected fans would not show up because of her part in the Tubonga Nawe deal. She has decided to extend her concerts to a later time when the whole Tubonga fracas is over.
We will keep you posted.
