Following the release of the all-star song praising President Museveni titled “Tubonga Nawe”, there has been widespread criticism of artistes involved in the music project by fans.
A section of aggrieved music fans accuse the “Tubonga Nawe” singers of betrayal saying they only used the project to enrich themselves instead of airing the grievances of the common man.
Some musicians were also not happy with the project saying the opportunity with the President should have been used to front issues that affect the music industry as whole such as copyright law among other things instead of just collecting handouts.
Following the raging debate on the might-have-beens at the Tubonga Nawe dinner, NTV’s Douglas Lwanga has since decided to call on several stake holders in the industry to discuss the issue on national television.
According to the organizers of the debate, issues to be discussed include: “Did our artists betray us for a few shillings by attending the presidential dinner and also by singing the TUBONGA NAWE song? Why didn’t they raise critical artists’ issues like the copyright law in front of the president?”
The panel will include; musicians that were part of the project including Chameleone and Bebe Cool, Joe Tabula(Music Critic), Benon Kibuuka (Head of Artists Fraternity), James Wasula (President UPRS), and Jenkins Mukasa (Radio Talk show host) among others.
The debate will be live on NTV The Beat at 5pm today evening.
