Top Model Uganda, a modeling company and the exclusive Uganda partner of Top Model World wide, has launched a campaign to fight against Gender-based violence (GBV). The campaign is being held under the theme ‘Yogela, Totya,“ a Luganda word that means ‘Speak Up, Don’t Fear’.

As part of the campaign, Top Model Uganda has started moving to different schools to spread the Gender-Based Violence message, creating awareness, and also teaching the students about the different forms of GBV that happen in schools and our communities.

Over the weekend, they visited Exodus College located in Banda in Wakiso district to spread this message.

Speaking at the event, Sharon Kiyimba, the Top Model Uganda winner urged the students to make use of their prefects and senior women whenever they face challenges, especially with sexual harassment. “Gender-based violence needs to stop. We all need to speak out with no fear whether boy or girl; we need to stand-up,“ she stated.

Allen Lule, the founder of Top Model Uganda, revealed that they decided to take this initiative to schools because this is where boys and girls are most vulnerable.

“We decided to launch this initiative in a school because it’s after school that boys and girls get into adult life. Some are already vulnerable in schools, so we needed to act as Top Model uganda.” She said, adding that, “Fighting gender-based violence should be everyone’s business, we believe at Top Model Uganda.”

The students were entertained by Trojan dancers with a Gender-based violence themed performance.
