Uganda’s top artistes are gearing up to entertain their fans in a mega concert this Independence Day. Dubbed the UG Connect Peace and Love concert, it will be held virtually as the entertainment industry remains under lockdown over COVID-19 pandemic.
According to Juma Balunywa, the CEO at Balunywa Promotions which is organizing the concert, the show is aimed at preaching unity and peace ahead of the coming general elections.
“The period we are in now is tumultuous because of the coming general elections. We have already witnessed people fighting over differences in political opinion,” Juma Balunywa told media on Tuesday.
“I want to emphasize that this show is not leaning towards any political party but rather calling for unity. We are telling everyone that we need each other and can still have fun together in spite of political differences.” He added.
The Peace and Love Concert will feature over 40 entertainers including singers, comedians and deejays. The show will be held on Friday, October 9th and will broadcast starting at 8:00PM via Facebook as well as several local TV stations.
“I know you have missed us,” Comedian Madrat commented. “We are not sure when the COVID-19 pandemic will end so that everything can go back to normal again. So, we thank Balunywa for this opportunity to showcase what we have been doing.”
The show will feature comedians like MC Mariachi, Bizonto, Madrat & Chiko, while the singers will include John Blaq, Eddy Kenzo, Mathias Walukagga, Lydia Jazmine, Fik Fameica, Mesach Ssemakula and Ykee Benda among others.
The Peace and Love Concert is sponsored by MTN Uganda and Movit Products Limited who will give out several goodies including data and gift hampers to lucky customers who will tune in for the show.
