Pilsner Lager has made a cash donation of 10 Million Shillings to officials from the Tooro Kingdom to aid in celebration of the ‘Empango’ Coronation festivities which will be held on 14th September in Fort Portal.

The celebrations are held annually to commemorate the anniversary of the coronation of the Omukama of Tooro, His Majesty King Dr. Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.

Speaking at the handover, Edgar Kihumuro, Value Beer Brand Manager at Uganda Breweries said that Pilsner Lager was making a contribution to an important activity that showcases the rich cultural heritage of the people of Tooro and also ensures continuity of tradition and culture.

“Pilsner, aptly known as the King’s Beer, recognizes the important role that culture plays in bringing people together for everyday celebrations, just like our brand. So, our contribution is a way to support Tooro Kingdom as it continues to celebrate its rich history,” Kihumuro said.

In addition to the cash contribution, Pilsner also contributed beer worth UGX5 million and funding for logistical support to cover hiring of tents, chairs, mobilization and publicity. The donation was received by Bernard Tungwako, Omuhikirwa/ Prime Minister of Tooro Kingdom who led a delegation from the kingdom.

“Kingdoms thrive and continue to perform their duties on the good will and support of the people and now, we are honored that Pilsner has seen the good we do to harness and preserve our traditions and contributed handsomely to our celebrations,” said Premier Tungwako.

In addition, Pilsner will host the Empango kasiki (pre-coronation bash) to bring together the people of Tooro to celebrate their King. This year’s celebrations also include Amasaza football tournament, a tourism expo in the palace grounds, and an agribusiness fair at Boma Grounds Fortportal to give rural farmers climate-smart agriculture expert advice.
