Beauty is priceless. Simply put, there isn’t a price you can put to it. So valuable is beauty that you invite the stares, the gifts, the endless favours and basically, everyone will be at your feet.
Well, it wasn’t the case for a certain 27 year old Iranian called Nina Siakhali Moradi. This news was welcomed with a stir as the beautiful Nina was rejected to take up the post on the Qazvin City council simply because she was, “too pretty to serve”.
Interestingly, Nina is not your typical girl next door. She is a very intelligent woman who is a graphic designer and Architect with a certain fondness of politics. She had managed to collect 10,000 votes in the June election and was placed 14th on a list of 163 candidates that allowed her to become an alternate member of council.
One of the women above Nina in the rankings pulled out and it was Nina to take up the seat. However, the electoral review board comprised of entirely old men decided to kick her out. “We can’t have a catwalk model on the council, this is unacceptable,” a senior official told the Qazvin press. Her posters had a face of hers with slight make up and that has rubbed the voters the wrong way viewing her as “scandalous and out of norm”.
Her campaign has been hinged on youth and women rights and the rights of women have on many occasions been suppressed in Iran. She has gone on to appeal the council verdict on kicking her out.
Did I hear someone say, “Beautiful but unlucky”
