Nigerian songstress and mother of one, Tiwa Savage has made history as the first Nigerian female artist to take home an award at the prestigious MTV Europe Music Awards for Best African Act.
Tiwa beat fellow African acts Davido from Nigeria , Distruction Boyz and Shekinah from South Africa, Kenya’s Nyashinski and Fally Ipupa from the Democratic Republic of Congo.
In a celebratory tone, she took to her instagram to celebrate her accolade;
“Almighty God, you are so faithful. My savage soldiers did it for me. “You have stuck with me through the roller coasters. Thank you. To my amazing team, this is just the beginning. African women, this is for us. “I have been through a lot but I have kept my head up and weathered the storm because I know some little girl somewhere is dreaming like I did,” she wrote.
The awards happened yesterday at the Bilbao Exhibition Center in Spain with several music stars across the world in attendance.
The biggest winner at the awards night was Cuban-American singer Camila Cabello who scooped herself four awards at the event.
