Ten years ago, in 2005, what do you remember happened?
1. YouTube was started by Jawed Karim, Chad Hurley and Steve Chen.
2. Facebook became world spread but I am sure none of us here had joined it yet.
3. In Uganda, the cars on the market were Toyota Kibina, Corolla Limited and Caldina. There were no Ipsums, no Spacio, no Prestige cars.
4. The top songs were Chameleone’s Kipepeo, and Tebasiga nsigo.
5. The fancy phones on the market were Nokia ka torch, Nokia 3310, Alcatel and the only special feature was an FM radio, a torch on the phone. No much internet connection.
6. Besigye returned from exile in South Africa. Later on he was arrested on Masaka road, charged with raping a certain Kyakuwa and the city got one of the biggest riots and military police forced people to move with their hands up. By 7pm the city was as empty as Lwera grassland. Obote, former Ugandan President passed away. High Court was besieged by black Mambas.
7.Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger elected Pope Benedict XVI on the second day of the Papal conclave.
8. Michaëlle Jean, a female born in Haiti, became the first black Governor General of Canada, representing the Queen of England.
9. The Ugandan MPs were bribed with shs 5M each and changed the constitution to allow Museveni to stand as president for as many times as he wants.
10. Tell us what you remember.
