The Uganda National Basketball Team, the ‘Silverbacks’ returned home yesterday from Tunisia where they had been competing in their first ever Africa Basketball tournament (The 2015 AfroBasket).
Uganda managed to win only one game at the competition when they beat Zimbabwe by 72-64 in the classification game for the 15th and 16th slots in the rankings.
The debutant Uganda were treated to a hot start when they faced off with the hosts, Tunisia who beat them by a 22point margin (Tunisia 77-55) in the competition’s opener before Nigeria thumped them by a 39points difference in their second game. (Uganda 59-98 Nigeria) ant later tthey lost again to Senegal by 48-79
Stanley Ocitti, Brandon Sebirumbi and Kassim Negwere are some of the players that performed well at the competition in the Silverbacks side.
Meanwhile, Nigeria beat Angola 74-65 in the finals on Sunday to win their first ever AfroBasket title and hence qualified for the forth coming 2016 Olympics that will be host in Rio Dejaneiro
Second-place Angola joined third- and fourth-place Tunisia and Senegal in booking their places for the 2016 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments (OQTs).
