A Michigan teen with a history of violence broke into the home of his ex girlfriend, doused them both in gasoline and set the room on fire in an attempted murder-suicide, according to the Kalamazoo County District Attorney’s Office. And it would have worked if not for her fast-acting brother, who fended off the man with a baseball bat.
Adam Shigwadja, 18, armed with a knife, snuck into the home undetected, hid in his ex’s room and poured gasoline on her when she entered at 10:15 p.m. Monday, prosecutors allege.
“He gave me the scariest face I’ve ever seen, and I was like, ‘Are you planning on killing me?'” 17-year-old victim Sophia Grace Putney-Wilcox told WWMT. “He said, ‘Oh yeah, I already made this decision. I’m killing you.'”
Her brother heard the assault and rushed into the room with a baseball bat, hitting Shigwadja until he jumped out a second-floor window. Shigwadja, of Kalamazoo, was caught the next day and denied bond Thursday after being charged with assault with intent to commit murder, home invasion and arson,MLive.com reported.
