Rambo V has been given the go ahead, with Sylvester Stallone due to write and star in it.
Splendid Film has bought the rights to the sequel, in which Stallone will reprise his role as troubled war veteran John Rambo.
“With Rambo V, Sylvester Stallone returns in his iconic role. This time, he goes up against a Mexican cartel,” the company said in a statement announcing a number of new movies.
“Stallone, who has also written the screenplay, describes the new Rambo as his version of No Country for Old Men. Like the last film, Rambo V is produced by Avi Lerner (The Expendables 1-3).”
Stallone expressed some scepticism about revisiting Rambo in early 2014, saying: “I’d love to do another Rambo, but maybe if he works in Las Vegas. Maybe it’s run its course.”
However, a fifth instalment in the Rambo series has been rumoured since the fourth movie’s release in 2008. It grossed $113m (£66.4m) globally during its run at the international box office.
Back in 2009, Stallone revealed that the fifth Rambo movie would no longer feature a science fiction twist, as was first envisioned.
Rambo V is tipped for release in 2015.
